For this semesters Co-exist project, we were required to design and improve an issue in SS15. As a group we discussed issues that did not only trouble the handicapped but everyone in general. As SS15 is situated in an area where there are many cars, we decided to work on crossroads.

With many intersections located in SS15, it makes crossing the road difficult as there are not many zebra crossings. For those who are older, injured or handicapped may take longer to cross the road though it is still fairly dangerous for the youth especially school children. We came up with the idea of a moving platform to help transport pedestrians at busy intersections.

There are to platform on each side of the road which moves along on a railway. When triggered (traffic light), steel poles slowly rise from the ground forcing vehicles to stop. The two platforms then transport the people to the other side. Additionally to reduce energy consumption, the platform is powered through kinetic energy made from Pavegon tiles; a type of tile that absorbs energy with human presence.

The platforms does not only target those with disabilities but are for everyone of all ages to use.
