What are your loves, what are you good at, what job do you think pays the bills, and what do you think the world needs?

There are many things that I love besides graphic designing. In the video, Chris mentioned to think back to your childhood and think of what you liked doing at that age. One thing that I loved as a child that is still something I love though I don't do often anymore is making things (crafts). I also loved riding my bicycle when I was younger and would always cycle to school with my friends and would meet up with them after school. I would love to be able to cycle now but where I live at the moment just isn't that suitable for me to do so. As a family orientated person, I loved going camping and having bbq nights with family friends before I moved back here. I think that I had more things that I loved doing compared to now as I have been so distracted with my studies.

I like to assume that I'm good at graphic design, there are certain areas that I need more practice in but with the skills I have now, I'm pretty decent. I'm also good at caring for others, there have been times where I've put others before myself; as the eldest child, I think this is something that comes naturally. I am also good at organising. Physically and mentally. I just can't stand when things aren't put in their correct place, I am also always using a planner to jot down my tasks planning out my assignments. Some people have made fun of me for it, but I think that organisation is a really important trait to have til you get old - it keeps you in habit of things.

To be honest, I don't really know what type of job (that relates to me) that is good paying. I think it all just depends on your skill, experience and perhaps the project you are working on. Where as I agree that the world needs a better education. Especially at a time like this, there are so many students from different levels who aren't as privileged. For instance, some universities such as Harvard are providing free online courses for the public. French fashion designer Jacquemus is also providing a free fashion course for people to access. It is a shame that it has taken such a tragic crisis for educational material to be given out for no charge.

How close are you able to converge these 4 elements based on your answers? How do you situate yourself in the Ikigai Venn diagram?

I definitely know that I am not at my Ikigai point as I still have much of myself to discover. I would consider myself in between passion and profession. As I am not fully working and only taking freelancing jobs when I am able to.

1.1 - Personal Skills Profile

What kind of designer are you?

For the first quiz, I got 'Workshop Warrior' as my result. The description mentions that I am 'able to run effective group sessions' which I think is quite accurate. Whether a group leader is determined or not, I tend to take charge and delegate tasks so that everyone has something to do. I like to know that things are getting done on time and correctly which is why I like to (nicely)

'boss' people around.

Moving towards the 'watch out for' section, a point that sticks out the most is - Is it time to stop looking for new ideas and make a decision? As a person who is fairly indecisive, some times decision making is difficult. Is there anything else that you could do to build confidence in your work? - I refer to myself as an ambivert and have always had issues with my confidence from time to time. Building confidence in my work is something I need to improve on as I am always keeping within my circle no matter how much I think I m branching out as I am afraid that things will not turn out the way I wanted, therefore affecting my grade.

My Creative Type

The Thinker - If I am not mistaken, I had gotten this result when we took this quiz during T&T. I guess nothing much has changed since. 😅

According to the results, a thinker makes the quest for knowledge and truth. I have always been taught to do lots of research which naturally, I brought along those skills with me when I came to college. Some people have told me that I'm 'smart' but honestly, I just read and watch a lot of things online.

Untapped Potential - Bridging theory and practice, applying ideas in real life. I think that it is quite obvious that many of my projects are related to more serious topics.

I am not sure why that happens exactly, I am always trying to be more creative and less serious when deciding my topic for a project but somehow it always travels back to more serious issues.

What type of designer are you?

To be honest, I found this quiz a bit confusing. Some of the questions were weird and had answers that had nothing to do with them. I just couldn't understand them very well so for some of them I put in a random answer which I thought suited me best. I got 'The Designer's Designer' as my result where they think of them as a 'fake it til you make it' type of person.

16 Personalities

This is by far, the longest quiz I have ever taken. I received the 'defender' for my result and it's brief introduction pretty much describes my personality. It mentions that Defenders need to learn when to say no and I relate to that so much as I am always saying yes to things in fear of hurting the other person's feelings. Gift giving is also mention in which it says that they (we) use our imagination and sensitivity to express themselves. I also relate to this as I often like to make or customise gifts to go along with things that I have bought for that person.

Some strengths and weaknesses that I associate with the most:

  • Reliable & Patient

  • Loyal & Hard working

  • Shy

  • Overload Themselves

  • Too Alturistic

Thanks Alia for what is a very well reflected piece. I like that you are using the results you garnered from the quizzes and tests taken and find actual experiences you could relate to in real life. I think it is a bit too much to expect to find your ikigai so early on in your career, but still those are good questions to ask yourself and continue to assess and reflect as you progress :)
