Before deciding what I wanted my outcome to be, I thought of things I generally have interest in and skills I want to improve on. Publication design and illustrations are one of the few. Typography is an important aspect of publication design and is something I would like to try out as my job. However, typography isn't my strongest asset and is something I want to improve on. On the other hand, I have recently gotten into illustrations and would like to expand my skill in that area.
I came to the decision of creating a publication that includes illustration within it.
Now, what is my publication going to be about?
I think that for young and fresh designers, it is important to be caught up on the latest trends or news - anything related to your industry and around it. Therefore I want my publication to be for a younger audience. Graphic designer and illustrator in their early 20s, who are interested in practicing sustainability in their work.
I am not aiming for it to be a serious book whatsoever as I think that it would make the lifestyle seem more intimidating. I myself would think that if I wanted to live more sustainably, I would have to do absolutely everything where in fact, that isn't true at all. I then learnt that doing a smaller amount of habits/practices properly is more effective than trying to do more without the right , intention. As they say, quality of quantity.
With a more friendly approach, I want to include a short journal segment in my book which briefly explains my experiences and perspective in sustainable living/design. From that I would move onto introducing sustainable living and then sustainable graphic design. I also want to include a segment where I include resources for print and general sustainable living. All these services and brands/companies would be local to Malaysia to help grow the sustainable efforts they are doing.
