WHAT I'VE LEARNT

When I was researching to help develop my body copy, I discovered new terms that I never knew of before. When it comes to sustainability there are a lot of organisations and certifications that companies may need or apply for in order to be certified as a sustainable brand/service/company. It is good to keep an eye out for some of these terms when looking through companies.

1. EFB: Empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a sort of biomass produced during the process of palm oil processing.

2. FSC: The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is a global forest certification system that offers: 1. Forest management 2. Chain of custody. FSC allows businesses to purchase and use forest made products with materials of well-managed forests.

3. ISO 14001:2004: (International Organization for Standardization) lays out environmental management program specifications that allow an organisation that establish and enforce policies and goals that take into account the regulatory standards and other specifications that the organization subscribes to, as well as information on essential environmental issues.

4. RSPO: The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oilis a not-for-profit organisation that unites the 7 sectors of the palm oil industry The organisation has produced a set of environmental and social criterias which companies must follow in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO).

5. VOC: Volatile Organic Compounds are gasses emitted from specific solids and liquids. A number of chemicals can be found in VOCs which may cause either short-term or long-term effects to health.
