MOODBOARD + SKETCHES

For my illustrations, I want them to be colourful yet still have a warm tone to them as I think that this will enhance the 'earthy-ness' of the topic. I will be referencing some of my favourite illustrators. Layout-wise I am still debating whether I want to go for something more free flowing or more constructed but that all depends on the amount of content I have. But at the moment, it seems like I am going for a more constructed layout. I have chosen a variety of colours that almost all have a warmer tone to. Additionally since I want the design approach to be more youthful and friendly, I have chosen a soft rounded font to be used in titles and subheadings. However for the body copy, I chose to create a font with my own handwriting. I think that by using my handwriting it makes the book more personal and that it is from me.

To create my font, I went on calligraphr and downloaded their template. I then brought it into Photoshop and with a stylus and tablet, I carefully wrote down each letter making sure that the letters are roughly the same size. I did not want to make them too prefect as I think that that defeats the purpose of using a handwriting style font.

Here are a few sketches that I will potentially be using for my book. Nothing is set but this is just to get an idea of what I might be using. Though sometimes I do not have a 'real' sketch for things and just go for it digitally.
