Sketches

These were my initial sketches for my illustrations. As you can see, they are very random and aren't cohesive with one another. At the beginning I wanted to make each character in some type of action pose related to the ('typical') Malaysian lifestyle such as playing badminton. However I

decided to focus on the animals itself.

A lot of children's illustrations are exaggerated (ex: big eyes, small body) and I wasn't sure what I wanted to 'exaggerate' so, I went to Instagram and looked through some practitioners.

Philip Giordano, is a Filipino-Swiss illustrator who is currently working in Tokyo. Giordano has worked on a variety of projects from magazines, animations to designing toys. As you can see, he smartly plays around with geometric shapes and the balance between them. In my opinion, the way he pairs shapes and texture is what makes his illustrations intriguing. From studying his illustrations, I'll be doing my own take on his style within my work.

These are some samples of the illustrations I have done so far. The card deck will include approximately 8 different endangered species but in different positions and expressions. You can definitely see the influence from Giordano's style.

Colour Combinations

I previously mentioned that I want my card game to be bright, colorful and contrasting. So I've tested out two different colour palettes though they ended up being similar but different shades.

Option 1

Option 2

At this moment, I am leaning towards the second colour scheme as it is much more brighter and fits my vision for the card game.
